Welcome to the Great Neighborhood!
Who doesn’t want to live in a Great Neighborhood? A neighborhood where it is normal to help each other! In some families, there is plenty. In others, there is too little. When there is too little, it gives them a lot of stress. Often problems pile up. This creates even more stress. With unpleasant consequences for the health and happiness of all family members.
Together with the Happiness BV, we are developing the Great Neighborhood Platform. Geweldige Wijk is a platform (iOS app, Android app & Dashboard ) through which we reduce social and health inequalities in the Netherlands, by providing targeted support to people living in poverty to take more control of their own happiness and health. A pilot of the platform is currently underway at Meppel City Council.
How does the Great Neighborhood work?
People who have less to spend can access the app and ask different questions in certain categories, such as: Transportation, Stuff or Culture. People who would like to help can also sign up for the platform, indicating which category they can help in. When the inquirer posts a question, the helper gets a notification of this and they can start chatting with each other. If the requester is comfortable with the conversation, that person can assign the helper and make an appointment. This is how we take care of each other in the neighborhood.
No stereotypes
During the design process, we presented different styles of icons to the target audience. In this process, we came to the conclusion that icons in “human” form often lead to a stereotype. Therefore, we chose to create a set of icons that do communicate “human” but are neutrally expressed.
