What is an emulator?

An emulator or simulator is software that simulates the operation of a particular device or operating system, such as iOS or Android. You may know emulators as a way to play old Nintendo games on your PC. It is used by developers to test the operation of software on different devices. On this page you can read more about emulators.

What is the best emulator for iOS or Android?

In an ideal situation, developers make sure they have many different devices at their disposal to test software. However, this takes not only a lot of time, but also a lot of money. An emulator, say for iOS or Android, is a cheaper solution. Moreover, an emulator often allows you to test specific devices.

The downside of this method of testing: it is and always will be a simulation. Some specific functionalities you can only test properly on the real device. This is why testing on emulators is never completely foolproof. For a quick check, however, it is fine. Many development software, such as Xcode (iOS) and Android Studio (Android) have built-in emulators/simulators that perform automated scans.
